sorry i have been such an awful slacker. i really have no excuse. sigh.
as for me in the workout department, i slipped up a bit. when school got out, i lost my routine in my day! plus, i was getting ready to move, which didnt end up happening (long story), so now i am trying to get back into it. worked out yesterday and today. yesterday i went on the eliptical, did rowing, and lots of weights. today just weights and eliptical.
if you both are counting calories (im trying... i think i go out too much... oops), lean cuisines are great for lunch. they have some awesome new entrees that i like to have when i dont have time to make my lunch and i dont want to go out and eat something unhealthy. make sure you drink WATER with it- it has a bit of sodium in it. but eat it with a small salad and it is the perfect amount!
so how about we really try and plan something this time around? this week is looking a bit crazy for me, but how about next week? let me know when you both are free! if i dont hear from you by sunday, ill text ya. :)

Ironically I just started couting my calories as well. I have been doing it for the past 3 weeks or so. I have been trying to stay under 2,000, but it comes out to be more around 1100, but that includes calories that I burn when I work out. So if you workout in the morning and burn 500 calories then I still have1600 calories left to use up. Because I start in the negative. Does that make sense? The more you work out the more you get to eat. I have been trying to monitor mine this way, eat about 3 200-350 calorie regular meals, and then 3-4 100 calorie or lower snacks a day. A lot of times I won't count the veggies in my caloric intake because they are so low. But I have found from keeping track of the calories I kind of know what snacks and foods equal about how many calories and it turns out to be not that hard as time goes on. Also, I am trying to drink A LOT more water. The other new drink that I have been doing is this smoothie called the green monster. Here is the link, http://www.yourtimewithkim.com/, the recipe is right on the front in the blog area. It doesnt taste bad at all and is really good for you. It packs about 258 calories, but the spinach is so good for you.
I hear ya on running with someone. It definitely kicks up your workout. It is hard, but very beneficial. I am probably not pushing myself as hard as I should be, but I am doing a better job of incorporating weights and strengthening into my work outs.

Sorry you haven’t had any luck with the job situation, Beth. Unfortunately this is not the best economy and even qualified people are not getting the jobs they want. I am just glad we all have jobs – PTL for that!
Jeff and I have three weddings this summer and one next March. It is amazing to me how many people are getting married.
I have to say that I am pretty proud of myself I have worked out every day since the beginning of last week (except for this weekend). Once you get into a routine, it really isn’t that hard. I ran with a friend of mine on a trail by my house and it really kicked my butt. She wanted to run a lot faster than I did (because that’s what she is used to) so it really pushed me. It made me realize that I could really stand to kick up my workouts a notch for sure…It is hard when you work out by yourself to take your workouts to the next level. I still have yet to do the Jillian Michaels video but I will do it one day when I don’t feel like going to the gym. I have also been eating around 1,500 calories a day (which I am pretty sure is a lot less than I was eating when I wasn’t counting at all but who knows…because I wasn’t counting!). Any idea how many calories you guys eat a day? I actually heard Jillian Michaels say one time…You have got to count your calories, or you are going to be fat. That kind of hit me since I wasn’t counting a single calorie that was going in my body.
Aaaanyway, I hope you are both doing well. Beth - thanks for the tip about the Chocolate Mint Cookie Bars and the smoothies. You are absolutely right. For the past week and a half almost I have been eating a lot of fruit, and you are right – it helps me not crave the sweet stuff. Fresh strawberries are the best! Yum!

Hey Guys!
I would love to get together. I am very free for the next few weeks. I dont leave for our first wedding until July 9th. Stupid wedding season. Christine how many do you have? We have 4 from July to beginning of August.
Christine I am sorry to hear about the high numbers, but glad you have gotten it checked out and hopefully get it in check soon. I used to do ice cream all the time as well, but have cut that out. I really dont miss it. Last night I did take a little trip to Baskin Robbins. I find that if it isnt in the fridge then I don't miss it too much. Also, there are other sweet treats you can eat that arent terrible for your waisteline. For example Special K has new snack bars out that are only 90 calories and there are these things called Chocolate Mint Cookie Balance Bars that are just enough of a sweet treat and still good for you. Also, if you put more fruit into your diet you may notice less sugar cravings. Or you could also trick your body and put that fruit into a smoothie and then you really think you are getting a treat.
I was doing great on the working out until the fam was here. I got a lot of hiking a runnign in, but just missed out on the weights. I guess it wasnt that bad.
Let me know when we can all get together. I have missed blogging with you ladies.

It's Been A While!
I have been trying to go to the gym as much as possible (for me that is about 3 or 4 times per week). I don't think I told you guys but I went for my annual check up and both my triglycerides and cholesterol are high so I am really going to buckle down and try to make some lifestyle changes (i.e. not eating dessert after dinner every night - a bad habit we have gotten into...I freakin' love ice cream though so it is hard to stay away from). High triglycerides run in my family so it was not a surprise that mine were high. It's just a matter of exercising and eating right...Or, I could die by the age of 40 or so my doctor said! Crazy!
Anyway, how are you guys doing?? Do you guys maybe want to meet somewhere for dinner sometime in the next few weeks? We could even meet somewhere in downtown Portland and eat outside! I'm not sure the weather looks great this week or even next though. Ugh. Let me know what works for you guys.

Hola Mis Amigas!
I haven't been able to look at this in a few days. I am pretty open whenever. I am going home for my brother's graduation this week on Thursday and get back Sunday. I also, am free on May 15th as well as most times in may and June. Just keep me posted.
BTW...my eating habits/work out sessions didn't do too well this weekend. I worked out everyday last week, but drank on Friday and didn't eat the best Saturday, but did play a grueling match of tennis on Sunday. I guess it wasnt as bad as I thought. How are you guys doing with the eating/working out?

Soooo Tired
Thankfully my allergies are getting better and I had my first fill night of sleep in over 3 weeks last night. Oh the wonders of drugs!
I am looking forward to making this chicken ball as well.
Maybe we should look to plan our next get together. What do you guys think?
you havent lost me...
right now i cant breathe though. i think i am getting a cold. i am watching it though! only a fever constitutes the swine flu :)
thank you, beth, for the info on stretching. ive noticed that too, if i remember i feel a lot better after working out than i do if i have not. im not so achey either. i am trying to remember it, but 5:30 isn't a good time in the morning to remember things like that.
im debating whether to go to the gym or not today. i am reeeeally not feeling up to it. i just want to go home and sleep. maybe i will go in the morning!
also, thank you for the pizza recipe and the chicken ball recipe! i will have to share them with whathisface and we can make it one night. :)
hope things are going well for the both of you!

Chicken Ball
Things have been going well with me. Jeff has been pretty busy with his class (homework and actually going to the class) so that has given me a lot of free time to go work out which is really great.
Also, it looks like I will be heading to Colorado at the end of May to visit my brother and spend the weekend in Colorado Springs and Breckenridge (my bro and his friends are renting a house there). I'm pretty excited to see and hang out with him. I am really cracking down on my eating and trying to work out hard though because there are not many (well, NONE actually) overweight people at the Air Force Academy. I don't want to be the ONE person who visits and looks like a fat cow. ;-) I know I'm not a cow, but you know what I mean...I don't want to feel out of place! haha
Oh! I think I told you both about this recipe, but I want to give it to you guys. Jeff and I actually made it with tuna instead of chicken this past weekend and it was really good! It's not the healthiest but it is a quick and easy thing to make for parties!
Chicken Ball
2 - big cans of canned chicken (all white meat works best) or 3 small cans
2 - 8 oz. cream cheese
1 T - A-1 steak sauce
1 tsp - curry powder
Chopped Pecans
Mix the first 4 ingredients together and roll into ball. Roll the
ball in the chopped pecans until it is completely covered. Refrigerate
and serve with crackers.
I made this for my mom's birthday that we held at our house on Sunday...it was a hit! I used walnuts instead of pecans though because that's what I had...but pecans are REALLY good in it too (almost better I think).
I will make it next time we get together so you guys can try it! ;-)

Dogs
http://www.petfit.com/Petfit/pfCommonDisplay.hjsp?asst=pfSummaryOfStudy
This Weekend
Saturday, Nick had to work, so I was lazy, and then did 4 loads of laundry and took the dogs on a 2 hour walk, which I believe was about 6 miles. My shins are still killing me from it. But I used that as my workout for the day. Finally Nick came home and we watched Iron Man....so good! I didnt end up making dinner until 9pm. We had a make shift lasagna. I made homemade pesto and layered it with cottage cheese and garlic chicken sausage with red sauce. It actually turned out really great for a random meal. I also made it in a meatloaf pan, so it was the perfect amount of food.
Sunday, we actually got up and went to a new church down the street. I am glad we went, but I don't think its our kind of church. Very traditional Lutheran. I am not there any more, so the search for a new church continues. We had cinnamon rolls for bfast...delicious, watched the Taladega Car Race, and cleaned. Later some of Nick's friends came over for the Blazer game and then we played Rock Band. I did not work out. Oops!
All in all, pretty good weekend. I wish it weren't over. Christine, I am glad the pizza turned out so well. It is fun because you can put whatever you want on it. I did that new machine that is at Howard Hall and then the eliptical as well as some weights. I am going to go home tonight and do some abs.
I am trying to figure out what to make for dinner. Creamy pesto pasta, london broils, marinated chicken on the grill, some frozen chicken ravioli's that we have....etc. Any great ideas?
Stretching
Overall, I think stretching is a great thing, but I can not say that I am all that good at doing it very regularly.
I hope that helps.

Best. Pizza. EVER!!!
Amazing recipe...pizza is so fun to make too. And you get to put whatever you want on it...so delicious! I worked out really hard this morning and now I am feeling like I need to get back into the gym after that meal...totally worth it though! ;-)
Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

PIZZA!!
Friday, April 24, 2009
man oh man...
worked out this morning... did weights, elliptical, stair master, and treadmill in short-ish intervals. i have a question though: how IMPERATIVE is stretching before and after? i understand that you are more likely to pull something if you don't, but what about other side effects? like, the effectiveness of a workout... is that affected? just curious, because i always forget to do it.
hope you both have a GREAT weekend! i will be watching playoff games, wine tasting, and stamping (yay card-making!) and perhaps i will treat myself and get a blizzard too :)

TGIF!
Good luck with the pizza. Feel free to call me with any questions you have. I will be around.
Weekend plans...not much! Nick has to work tomorrow from 10 - 6. So I would like to go shopping and maybe clean a little. Get a good workout in and relax. I am hoping for some nice sun. Looking at the forecast it shouldnt be too bad. Sunday really no plans again. We have a women's basketball banquet, but I may not go to it.
I made the bourbon chicken last night and put some veggies in it like a stir fry. It was delicious. I hope you guys try it and enjoy it.
I must say I am enjoying this blogging thing. It is nice to keep in touch more regularly as well as something to do when I am bored at work and need to look like I am busy.
Have a great weekend you guys!
Looking forward to our next get together.

The weekend is almost here!
I worked out Wednesday night and this morning (I skipped yesterday). I actually didn't even go into work yesterday (I took a sick day) because I just needed a DAY to get things done. There are just some things you can't do before or after work... i.e. going to the social security office, so I did that yesterday and got my name changed to "Gibbs" on my card (there are always really yucky people in there - I wouldn't recommend going there unless you HAVE to!). I think I finally have everything changed over! It was really nice to be productive outside of work.
I am so excited for this weekend...Just to be able to kick back and hang out. We are headed out to Kell's tonight for a friend's birthday and then we are celebrating my mom's bday on Sunday...A weekend full of birthdays!! :-) My latest plan is to make pizza on Saturday! ;-) Do you guys have any big plans for the weekend?
HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Tired!
I am ready to go home. Is it 5:00pm yet?
Pizza Dough
Glad you both seem to be getting your workouts in. I went rollerblading yesterday again and man oh man I wasnt sore until I got back on them. I assume it is because on a daily basis I dont use those muscles, so until I get back on I don't know that I am sore. Today I think I am going to run and do my workout video. I love that thing. Yeah it is Jillian Michaels. If you can stick with the video it really does work. I remember doing very regularly and seeing awesome results. I am currently trying to do it at leaset twice a week if not three times. My allergies have been bothering me really badly today. I hate it. My head feels fine, but my nose is just so stuffed up. I wish the blooming would friggin stop.
Dough Recipe
In a medium saucepan put about 1/2 inch of milk, 1 tbls sugar, 1-2 tbls EVOO. Let boil for a few minutes. Turn off and let cool
Get some active rise yeast. (They sell them in 3 packs.) Mix one packet of yeast with 1/2 cup warm-hot water. (I usually test this with my hand. It should be hot, but not too hot that you can't keep your hand under the water.) This is usually where things can go wrong. If the water is not hot enough the yeast won't cook, but if it is too hot the yeast will die.
Once the milk is cool add the yeast mixture. Now here is where I started changing things up. I add a few sprinkles of salt, pepper, garlic salt, and italian seasonings to the mixture. Then gradually add white flour to the mixture until you have a ball of dough. Once it is mixed in, usually 2-3 cups of flour let sit in the pan with a warm wash rag over the pan. It will take about 45 min to an hour to rise. Once it is risen then use half the dough for one pizza.
I cook mine on 425 for about 20-25 minutes.
We will probably have to actually do a show and tell on this as it can be tricky with the yeast.

sushi is healthy... right?
i am going to the gym today after i digest my food and have my grad meeting... woop! and hopefully tomorrow morning too.
mainly what i have been doing is treadmill, walking with sprints, and the stairmaster. not sure how that would hurt me... but the knee feels better now, which is a good thing...
and yes, a workout/recipe sharing gathering would be fun! and i am def. interested in the dough recipe. very nice!
hope you both are well! sorry ive been quiet today... busy day!
-Caitlin
Workout Video
Man, this day is going by so slow today! I don't know about you guys, but I am so ready to get outta here!
I would love to get the dough recipe from you, Beth! That's awesome that it turned out well. Talk later!

Weights
Glad to hear you are enjoying the weather so much. I have great news. Nick and I had pizza again last night and I finally perfected the dough recipe. Next time or one of the times we get together I will teach you guys how to make it. It was great tasting and perfectly crips/soft. I am excited to spread the word on that one.
As far as the weights I do...I use 5 lb. weights. Sometimes I use no weights and will go through the exercises without the weights. This is because my back isnt as strong as it should because of my accident, so I am working on making it stronger. I will also do less lb. of weights and more repetitions, for example 5 lb. weights, 2 sets of 20 reps. I dont want to build muscle, I want to stay lean and just keep up with the muscle that I have.
The types of exercises I do are pretty basic. I have a workout dvd at home that I can burn for you guys. Actually, I think Caitlin has a copy of it. But I do standard biceps curls, triceps, lungs while holding the weights, I use my exercise ball a lot and do some stability and core work as well as military press, bench press, etc. A lot of times I will just buy a fitness magazine and find exercises that I like in there. I also have some workouts that one of the trainers at work designed that I can show you if you would like. Maybe the next time we get together it is sharing food and sharing workouts. What do you think. I don't know if that helped you at all. Some stuff is a lot easier to show than to explain.

Sorry!!! I'm here...You haven't lost me!!
No, you haven't lost me already! ;-) I'm just not used to the blogging thing and I don't have any alerts to let me know when you guys post. I will try to get better!! This past weekend was good. Jeff and I got a lot of yard work done as well which was awesome. I kept saying...I don't need to lift weights, I can just pick up these concrete things and be good! lol Our backyard it lookin' pretty good though and I have to say, I am very excited to have some girls' nights back there this summer!
I did not actually work out this morning OR yesterday morning. I know, I'm bad...I was going to go this morning but Jeff stayed up so late last night doing reading for his class that I was just too tired. I am going walking tonight with a friend and I will go to the gym tomorrow morning for sure!
Are you guys loving this sun or what? I think it's amazing...I don't know about you guys, but these past two days at work have been TOUGH! All I want to do is be distracted by the sun! I went out with my coworker yesterday and ended up taking a TWO hour lunch because it was so nice to be out...OOPS! ;-)
One good thing about this weather is I don't feel like eating as much and I have been trying to eat more salads lately. I hear you though, Caitlin, it is freakin' hard to stay away from the carbs...especially when they are right in front of you (a negative to marrying a large guy who likes to eat a lot of carbs...haha)
Anyway, enjoy the sunshine tonight!! Talk to you later!
- C
Ready to head home!
Good luck tonight. I am sure it they will do great.
Nice job on working out twice yesterday. I went on a run today in the middle of the day and it was great, but SO hot. It really zapped a lot of my energy. I am going to go home and get some weight training in. I notice that doing weights really helps me to get the results more quickly that I am looking for. It burns more calories, I think it also burns calories up to 48 hours after you do the workout. You can't beat that.
I think the eliptical is a good choice if your knees hurt. What have you done the past few days to make them hurt, running?
I am ready to head home and hang out with the doggies. It sounds like Zeppelin may be sick. He hasnt been eating and apparently is throwing up. UGH!
Have a good evening you two! Christine have we lost you already on the blogging?
so... tired...
but yes, i was feeling extra motivated and worked out twice yesterday. did cardio for both.
I actually got a good deal on tanning at my gym... i have gone once and it was pretty funny. ive never done a stand-up bed before, so i didnt know how to turn the darn thing on! scared me to death when i figured it out! it is expensive, but i agree about feeling better when youre tan- clothes look better too! and SOME of us didn't get to go to the Caribbean. :)
pray for my family tonight! i am reeeeally stressed!
Yay for the sun!
Other than that I am just trying to enjoy the sun as much as possible while I can. I kind of want to start going tanning, but feel like it is a waste of money. I just always feel so much better when I am tan. Do you guys feel like that at all?
How are things going?

Monday
Caitlin, glad to hear your weekend went so well. Now about that pizza...if you are going to eat it make sure its REALLY good, not just ok. Otherwise my weekend went pretty well. I went to this Chef's Table on Friday night at the school. It was really good. Saturday, I was a cleaning fanatic and got an hour run in. Sunday, Nick and I worked in the yard and I got my workout moving cement in the yard. Then some people came over to grill and I got a little drunk. Oops!
Other than that, the weekend wasnt too shabby. Now I am just trying to get through this day so I can be outside in the beautiful weather.
Have a good week

pizza is my enemy
count 'em.
three.
twice on Friday for school stuff and once today. BLECH. i am tired of pizza. its bad bad bad. what is my problem?! i mean, the stuff you made, beth, was super because it was thin crust awesomeness. this was delivery crapola, which is good, but not not NOT three times in one weekened. ridiculous. i am going to try and cut my carb-intake a little this week to help with that...
sooo my plan for this week is to try and work out in the mornings and see if i can make it through a whole week of 5:30 mornings. i bought new running shoes from the nike store, which are... amazing! i found a new sports bra there, too! i love going there... it is a mecca for my family, methinks.
otherwise, it was a pretty kick-ass weekend. got to see the fam, didnt lose the playoff game, danced for 30 minutes with my nieces and nephew, and saw joel mchale as well! (not in that order...)
hope you both had a great weekend. yay for awesome blog posts!

Hello There!
So I actually have an account to log into this site already. I follow my friend from UP's site on her pregnancy. So it was easy to get in. Caitlin way to be prompt on getting this going so quickly.
A little bit about my morning/day...I got up and was stuck in traffic for 40 minutes to be late to our marketing intern thank you end of the year breakfast (do you like that description?). We ate at the delicious Beaterville. Then headed to work to my first of 3 interviews for our new marketing interns for next year. Got through it and then sped through some work, so I could get my workout in. I went to Howard Hall and did 30 minutes on that machine we talked about yesterday and then about 15 minutes on weights. Felt great! Came back to work, had to run to Kaiser to pick up a prescription and headed back to work for two more interviews. Then worked with our soccer team to get their community service project underway at the baseball game and then had another meeting at 3pm for another community service project for the entire student-athlete body. Needless to say, this is the first chance I have been able to check out and see what this blog is all about.
Tonight I am going to this dinner at school called the Chef's Table and it is supposed to be 8-10 mini meals each paired with a class of wine. It should be great. I am pretty excited about it. Tomorrow Nick has to work from 10-2 so I am looking forward to hanging out with the pups and getting in an hour run/interval workout. This is something that is not pleasant, but has lovely benefits of getting your body in gear. Let me know if you want to learn it and I will teach you.
So this is my first post. How did I do?
Have a great weekend Ladies!

At least we won't be tempted to buy it now! :-)
I walked into the gym looking pretty crappy...like I just rolled out of bed. It was so nice to not feel like I had to wear cute clothes or have my makeup did! ;-) It was just me and the old people! I decided to ease my way back in (I only did 20 minutes on the elliptical machine and 10 minutes or so with light weights). I am going to gradually do more and more time on the elliptical and add resistance as time goes on! I might just try a class or two one of these days. We'll see. Welp, that's all for now!
...Have a great day girls!

"Eat Less Reeses" Blog!
Okay, so I guess "Eat Less Reeses" could be our motto...
Now we need to get Beth an account so she can join in on the fun.
Christine
PS: Can anyone see this, Caitlin or can it only be viewed by the three of us?
FIRST POOOOST!
so i worked out this morning for about a half an hour because i think i was still waking up... did ten minutes on the amazing stair master to get the heart rate up and then 20 min on the treadmill with sprints throughout. (i heard thats effective)
after the workout, i went and got a chocolate milk, which apparently they sell in super-cute box sizes at costco (get excited Christine!). it has a retractable straw! then, once i got to work (with cleaned shoes, mind you), i read this:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/24/health/webmd/main1342839.shtml
which further affirms the awesomeness of chocolate milk. i am totally okay with that- it was yummy! :)
